Advancing Conservation through Culture

Promotores Verdes, AFC+A’s flagship program, advances a culture of conservation and public health services through community engagement and employment. We empower historically underserved communities by educating them on the health services of nature, connecting them to public land, and fostering engagement in environmental stewardship.

We train and deploy community members as Promotores Verdes across various initiatives, including tree planting, youth conservation, and outdoor recreation. Promotores Verdes (nature health workers) are inspired by Promotores de Salud (community health workers) but rather than acting to connect communities to the health services of institutions from which they are disenfranchised Promotes Verdes connects communities to the health services of nature, advocating in the process for environmental justice, conservation, a sustainable outdoors economy, and ensuring equal access to the health services of nature

Join us in cultivating healthy, just communities through the power of nature and conservation.

Connecting communities to the health services of nature and the arts

Promotores Verdes promotes the health benefits of nature and the arts. This dynamic initiative integrates recreation, conservation, and public health. Promotores Verdes provide outreach and engagement in efforts such as urban forestry, green workforce development, and forest bathing.

Community Tree Planting

We are partnering with communities to plant thousands of trees over the next five years to improve the tree canopy, combat climate change, and create healthier, more vibrant communities.

Promotores Verdes Youth Corps

We are developing the next generation of stewards and fostering youth leadership through outdoor activities and cultural connections.

Workforce Development

AFC+A prepares underrepresented communities for careers in sustainability, providing valuable training and support and contributing to a more sustainable and inclusive future.

Community Passports

We invite communities to connect to the cultural and outdoor resources in their backyard, offering passports that enhance Latino engagement and promote the health benefits of nature and the arts.
