People of color are underrepresented in the field of conservation, yet suffer from the highest environmental inequities. Our workforce development programs are designed to provide the skills, training, and support needed to find and secure high quality jobs in conservation and outdoor recreation. We aim to empower individuals to embark on careers that contribute to a more sustainable and healthier planet.
The failure of environmental organizations and agencies to increase recruitment and retention of people of color comes despite the disproportionate impact of environmental hazards on communities of color and the fact that people of color poll higher than whites in support for environmental issues.
2024 marks the eighth consecutive year Green 2.0 has presented data on demographic data of staff and equity practices at non-profit organizations (“NGOs”) and foundations in the environmental sector. 2024 reports the first decline in staff of color at all levels of NGOs in the history of this report. While foundations saw marginal increases, the trend at NGOs begs the question of why these organizations are not retaining staff of color.
